Editorial policy
How we research, write, review and update our content, and the limits of what we publish.
How we choose topics
Topics come from real questions: what readers save on Pinterest, what people search for, and what therapists say clients most often misunderstand.
How we check facts
- Health and treatment information is checked against sources such as the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH), the American Psychological Association, the VA National Center for PTSD, SAMHSA and peer-reviewed research, and linked in each article.
- We label popular frameworks (like the inner child or polyvagal theory) as frameworks, and say when evidence is limited or debated.
- We don’t give medication advice or diagnose. Screeners like the PHQ-9 and GAD-7 are presented as screens, never diagnoses.
About “From the therapy room” notes
These notes describe common therapy practices and perspectives in general terms. They are not quotes from specific therapists or clients, and never include anyone’s private information.
Updates and corrections
We review content regularly. If you spot an error, please tell us; we correct mistakes quickly.
Independence
We don’t accept payment to cover topics or recommend providers. Books by our writer are clearly labeled.
